COMPETITION FORMAT/PLAYOFFS

Under 14’s:  4 team pools will play a round robin format playing 2 sets to 25 points (starting at 4-4), no cap. 

The 1st & 2nd  place teams from each pool will advance to pools AA & BB.  The 3rd & 4th place teams from each pool will advance to the CC & DD pools.  The first two games of round 2 will begin as soon as round one is completed.  The 1st  & 2nd  place teams from pools AA & BB will advance to Gold.  The 3rd & 4th place teams from pools AA & BB will advance to Silver.  The 1st & 2nd place teams from pools CC & DD will advance to Bronze.  The 1st & 2nd  place teams from pools CC & DD will advance to Diamond.  All playoff games will be best 2 out of 3 sets.  The 3rd set if necessary will be a 15 point set.

 

Under 15’s:  7 team pool on two courts will play a round robin format playing 2 sets to 25 points (starting at 4-

4), no cap.  The 1st, 2nd & 3rd place teams will advance to Gold, the 4th, 5th & 6th place teams will advance to Silver.  All playoff games will be best 2 out of 3 sets.  The 3rd set if necessary will be a 15 point set.

 

Under 16’s:  One 4 team pool and three 5 team pools will play a round robin format. The 4 team pool will play

3 sets to 25 points (starting at 4-4), no cap.  The 5 team pools will play 2 sets to 25 points (starting at 4-4), no cap.  The 1st & 2nd place teams from each pool will advance to pools AA & BB.  The 3rd & 4th place teams from each pool will advance to the CC & DD pools.  The 5th place team from each pool will advance to pool EE.  All round two games will be 2 sets to 25 points (starting at 4-4), no cap.  The EE (floating pool) will play the first game of the second round on Court 1 immediately following the first round of pool play on this court.  (NOTE:   If either team playing this game are not finished with their pool another game from pool EE may be substituted.  The work team for this match is Team #3 from Pool A). The first three games of round 2 (pools AA – DD) will begin as soon as round one is completed.  The 1st  & 2nd  place teams from pools AA & BB will advance to Gold.  The 3rd & 4th place teams from pools AA & BB will advance to Silver. The 1st & 2nd place teams from pools CC & DD will advance to Bronze.  The 3rd & 4th  place teams from pools CC & DD will advance to Diamond. All teams from pool EE will advance to Ruby.  All playoff games will consist of the best of 3 sets.  The third set if necessary will be a 15 point set.

Under 18’s:  Two 4 team pool and two 5 pools will play a round robin format, The 4 team pools will play 3

sets to 25 points (starting at 4-4), no cap.  The 5 team pools will play 2 sets to 25 points (starting at 4-4), no cap.  The 1st & 2nd place teams from each pool will advance to pools AA & BB.  The 3rd, 4th & 5th place teams from each pool will advance to the CC & DD pools. All round two games will be 2 sets to 25 points (starting at 4-4), no cap.  The 1st & 2nd  place teams from pools AA & BB will advance to Gold.  The 3rd & 4th place teams from pools AA & BB will advance to Silver.  The 1st & 2nd place teams from pools CC & DD will advance to Bronze.  The 3rd & 4th place teams from pools CC & DD will advance to Diamond. The 5th place teams from CC & DD will advance to Ruby.  All playoff games will consist of the best of 3 sets.  The third set if necessary will be a 15 point set.

(NOTE: Team AA #3 &  BB #3 will work the last match on their court on Saturday Game #4 pools CC & DD)   Team AA #1 & BB #1 will work the first match on their court on Sunday – Game # 6 pools CC & DD)

 

SIGN IN:

          Early sign in for all teams will be available Friday night at World Volleyball Training Center during the High Performance tryouts 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM.  Otherwise check in and check out will be with the site coordinator at each location.

Courts 1 – 4                SUNY Orange, 115 South Street, Middletown, NY

Courts 5 – 8                World Volleyball Training Center, 300 Big Pond Road, Huguenot, NY

Courts 9 – 12              Middletown High School, Carpenter Avenue, Middletown, NY

 

            Site Coordinators:         John Muollo, Laurie Muollo

 

Courts  13 – 14           Pine Bush High School, 156 Route 302, Pine Bush, NY

 

            Site Coordinators:         Paul Blazeski, John Ryan

 

PLAYING TIMES:

            All playing times listed on schedule are approximate times.  All games (INCLUDING the start of the second round of pool play) will begin immediately following the previous match on court.

 

WARM UP TIMES:

            Until each team has played once:

1)      2 minutes of ball handling

2)      4 minutes of court use, serving team (including serving)

3)      4 minutes of court use, receiving team (including serving)

After each team has played once:

1)      3 minutes of court use, serving team (including serving)

2)      3 minutes of court use, receiving team (including serving)

NOTE:  Serving can be part of a teams’ individual warm up, but must be request at Captain’s meeting

 

TIE BREAK PROCEDURES:

            Ties will be broken with the following priorities:

1)      Game Record                                                         4)  Overall point differential

2)      Head to Head Record                                            5)  Overall point percentage

3)      Head to Head point differential                                6)  Flip of a coin

With the following exceptions:

1)      The #3 tie breaker for 2 teams to determine playoff teams will be a one 25 point set

2)      If three teams are tied, team with best head to head point differential (then head to head point percentage, then overall point differential, then overall point percentage) receives a bye.  The remaining two will play one 25 point set.   If needed #1 will play winner.

3)      If four teams are tied, seed by head to head point differential, then head to head point percentage, then overall point differential, then overall point percentage - #1 vs. #4 and #2 vs. #3

NOTE:  Forfeits or defaults, should they occur, will be counted as sets played.

 

EMERGENCY MEDICAL PERSONEL:

            Emergency Responders will be available at each site

EARLY DEPARTURE POLICY:

Should a team leave the tournament prior to finishing their play or work assignment the following penalty will apply: the club will be fined $ 50.00 for each player and coach listed on that team’s tournament roster. Such fine shall be payable to IREVA within 10 days of receipt of a registered letter sent to the team’s club director. It will be the responsibility of the club to pay this fine.

 

COACHES:

            You must have the athletes’ medical waivers in your possession at all sites.  You must sign out with the site coordinator before leaving.  You must also remain with your work teams at all times.

 

WORK TEAMS:

            Each team will provide a certified down official, certified scorekeeper, score flipper, 2 qualified lines people for each work assignment.  Pool play work schedules are listed.  Please check the work teams carefully, there are floating pools (Under 16’s & Under 18’s).  Teams that are late to officiate will be penalized in their next match, one point per minute that any member(s) of the officiating team are not available to a limit of 21 points in the first game following each occurrence.  A Coach is required to be at the scorer’s table with the work team.

 

PLAYOFF WORK TEAMS:

            Please check Playoff Postings for work teams.  As teams are changing courts you may be asked to work the next game on your court or the game before your next match.

 

SPORTSMANSHIP:

            All players have signed a USA Volleyball Code of Conduct.   Unsportsmanlike conduct by players, coaches, parents and other visitors will not be tolerated.

 

RULES AND PROTESTS:

            All USAV rules apply (with noted exceptions).  The Head Official (or Site Head Official) and the two Site Coordinators will act on all protests ASAP.  Judgement calls are not subject to protest.  All protest decisions are final.

 

AWARDS:

            1st & 2nd Place Team Awards, 1st & 2nd Place Individual awards for each age group in each bracket.

 

CONCESSIONS:

  • There will be a food and drink concession stand selling food, soda, snacks, water, sports drinks and more
  • Tournament T-shirts and a variety of other volleyball stuff will be available at most site locations.

Tournament T shirts will be available as follows :

 

Middletown HS:      Saturday and Sunday                   SUNY Orange:  Sat only        World VBTC:  Sunday only

Pine Bush HS :         T-shirts will be able to be ordered in a time specific manner- shirts will be delivered to the site prior to the end of play each day. Order forms will be available at check in.

 

FACILITY INFORMATION:

Please make sure all athletes, coaches, parents and visitors are respectful of playing sites. 

  • No ball handling in hallways
  • Keep camping areas clean and neat
  • No folding chairs are allowed in the SUNY Orange Gym
  • Water in plastic bottles only in the SUNY Orange Gym – no food allowed inside gym
  • No coolers allowed in the World Volleyball Training Center facilities
  • Bleacher seating is available at World Volleyball Training Center
  • All facilities are smoke free environments
  • Check with Site Coordinators regarding any additional facility information
