MORE ABOUT USA VOLLEYBALL AND IROQUOIS-EMPIRE VOLLEYBALL ASSOCIATION [for members, prospective players / members, parents, college / high school coaches, fans, etc.]
USA VOLLEYBALL [USAV] is the National Governing Body [NGB] for volleyball [both indoor and outdoor] in the USA under the US Olympic Committee [USOC]. USAV is responsible for the US Olympic Volleyball teams [both indoor and outdoor]. In support of those teams, USAV has a number of developmental teams at the national level, and supports a wide variety of programs for adults, juniors, coaches and officials. A great deal of information about those programs is available at the USAV website [also accessible from a link on the IREVA homepage and on the links page]:

For a quick overview of USAV membership information and benefits, see:

The 40 "Regional Volleyball Associations" (RVAs) of USA Volleyball are each a Member Organization of USA Volleyball. The RVAs serve the grassroots function for USA Volleyball and collectively serve as a catalyst for USA Volleyball functions. Membership in an RVA also provides membership in USAV, with all of the associated benefits.
Many organizations offer volleyball programs, and many of those are affiliated with USAV, but do not offer USAV memberships. USAV does not have reciprocity agreements with other organizations’ memberships. Some of the advantages of USAV / RVA membership and programs include:
- Single-sport focus on volleyball;
- Standardized sport rules nationwide as determined by the NGB;
- The highest levels of competition in each category;
- The best insurance program for general liability and injury;
- The best program for background check requirements for adults associated with juniors;
- Coach and referee training and certification programs.
IROQUOIS-EMPIRE VOLLEYBALL ASSOCIATION INC. [IREVA] is one of the member RVAs of USAV. IREVA’s territory is generally described as upstate eastern New York State. A few FAQs:
- IREVA is incorporated, and registered with the IRS as a not-for-profit organization. Donations ARE accepted!
- Clubs and teams within IREVA are independently organized, based upon commonality of player goals, geographic convenience, etc. IREVA can provide lists of team contacts for prospective players and coaches.
- Clubs and teams within IREVA plan and run all tournaments except the end-of-season Regional Championships. There is no set schedule such as with a league format. IREVA coordinates the schedule.
- Only USAV members can participate in USAV events, including tryouts, practices and scrimmages.
- The annual membership season begins 9/1 – IREVA welcomes renewals and new members throughout the year.
- Members of USAV / IREVA are not precluded from participating in volleyball events put on by other organizations, and vice-versa. However, there is no membership reciprocity, USAV insurance only covers USAV members at USAV events, etc.
- The IREVA website contains most of information and resources necessary for membership, starting a new club, etc. There is also a lot of useful information on the USAV website. Any IREVA officer [see CONTACT INFO or CONTACT US pages] may be contacted to assist in answering questions and providing guidance.
